Mod Information

X-Piratez is the biggest Total Conversion Mod for OpenXcom to date.

WHY WAS IT MADE?
Because Openxcom is an excellent tactical engine that allowed me to create what is basically a whole new game, set in the same universe as the original but played differently.

WARNINGS:
1. Contains (a little) NUDITY. You've been warned.
2. Do not install Openxcom nightlies! They are not compatible with Piratez.
3. If you absolutely can't stand bikini babes fighting Nazis with chainsaws, you may suffer some trauma.
4. If you're looking for a tactical game that doesn't require brains, try DOTA instead.

WHO IS THIS MADE FOR?
THis mod is for people who:
1) Want to play a different game.
2) Want more options.
3) Like big games.

IS THIS MOD COMPLETE?
It's fully functional and working as intended. However, it is still being developed, expanded upon and debugged, so watch out for new versions.

ANY TIPS ON HOW TO PLAY?
1. READ OR DIE. The Bootypedia is your friend. Trust me on that.
2. Be sure to decrease Air Combat Speed to a low level. Interceptions are brutal.
3. Be prepared for high difficulty level.

WHAT LANGUAGES ARE SUPPORTED?
Currently, the only fully supported language is US English.

ANY FUTURE PLANS?
Yes - new content of all sorts is planned and partially done (factions, weapons, mechanics...).

Install Instructions

HOW DO I INSTALL THIS MOD?
WINDOWS:
- Unpack the mod. It will create a complete Openxcom_XPiratez folder with all the files that you need; it will contain the correct nightly version and Yankes's & Meridian's custom exe named "Openxcom Extended".
- Copy files from your original "UFO: Enemy Unknown"/"X-Com: UFO Defense" folder to the "OpenXcom_XPiratez/UFO" folder.
- Use OpenXcomExt.exe to run the game.
- Choose "Piratez" as the master mod from the Game Options menu.
- Includes 3 'official' sub-mods made by other authors & 1 by myself, other mods exist

LINUX:
- Compile or DL your OXCom-Extended with the proper Nightly http://www.openxcom.com/mod/openxcom-extended
- Unpack the mod. Put the contents of the /user directory into your installation folder.
- Ignore the rest of the archive (as it contains Windows installation)

 

WHAT OPENXCOM OPTIONS SHOULD I ENABLE?

Crucial Options (the mod is crap without them):
- Spend Research Items (there are many items in this mod that can be researched repeatedly, so not enabling it is a straight cheat)
- UFO Extender Accuracy (all the weapons are balanced with this in mind)
- Live Alien Sale (releasing people for ransom is an important part of the game)
- Explosion Height: 2 (realistic explosions are very important too)

Recommended (Play-as-intended) OpenXcom options:
- Storage Limits For Recovered Items (for items and prisoners; realistic mode, forces decisions)
- Force Craft Launch (pirates rarely have the luxury of having armed, undamaged and fully-fueled craft... much less all at the same time!)
- Airborne Transfers (make more sense)
- Inventory Stats (crucial for keeping track of your encumbrance!)
- Alternate Movement Methods (because they're more in line with the adventurous approach to the theme)
- Alien Bleeding (to make it a bit easier to play... but harder to catch enemies alive. Plus they're mostly humans, they should bleed.)

NOT recommended OpenXcom options:
- Instant Grenades [You can throw multiple grenades in this mod and they won't destroy each other]
- Alien Weapon Self-Destruction [unless you never want to have top-tier guns]
- TFTD Damage Formula [already applied to *some* weapons]

Dioxine's X-Piratez Mod Credits

A short credits list in thanks to various people whose artistic work I've stolen and often redesigned, in alphabetical order. Precise contributions are hard or impossible to track since there is hardly anything I've left unchanged or used as intended. Without those great people, such mod like mine would likely take twice or thrice as much time to make, if it would be made at all!
